We do not usually cancel on snow days. Please use your own judgment when deciding to come to class if the weather is bad. If we do cancel, we try to call the students in advance.

Canyon Dance Academy and Canyon Movement Company are now the same entity.  That means that CDA is part of a non-profit dance company!  This provides many benefits for you as a student at CDA.  The Bravura Dance Company will be working more closely with CMC dancers and teachers in a mentoring program.  Donations for scholarships and other gifts will be tax-deductible.  More continuity and unified goals and mission with both groups.   And the studio is part of the formal CMC education program.  If you'd like to get more involved, please let me know.  You could serve on the board of directors, a committee for an event, or volunteer in other ways.  We have some great folks who help out so much, but more help is always needed.

Have you considered buying a supporting membership to Canyon Movement Company, the adult professional dance company?    It is a 501-c-3 non-profit company that depends on donations and grants to survive.  It is the company that actually produces the Nutcracker for Canyon Dance Academy students to participate in.  Annual memberships of $50 and above include a fantastic membership card that gives you discounts to many places in town including Canyon Dance Academy (free Nut dvd or registration fee), Canyon Dance Supply (15% one item every time you buy), 25% off Pesto Brothers, and more.  See the membership brochure at the front desk for more information or check CMC’s website, www.canyonmovementcompany.org

SCHOOL POLICIES

1. Absolutely NO food, drink or gum allowed in the studio except bottled water. This includes the waiting area.
2. Fees and discounts (see below)
3. Payments. Please make checks payable to Canyon Dance Academy. Put the checks in the black mailbox just inside the door of the studio. Note your child’s first and last name and class day/time on the check for ease in accounting. DO NOT give your payments to your teacher.  No cash payments will be accepted. Checks or money orders only. $25.00 fee charged for all returned checks. If you are paying monthly installments, payment is due the first lesson of each month. A LATE FEE of $5.00 per student will be applied after the first lesson is complete.
4. Communication. Canyon Dance Academy publishes a parent newsletter each month. This letter contains the lesson theme for the month, notes about upcoming events, etc. E-mail communication saves trees and money. Please keep your e-mail listing with CDA updated.
5. Visitors: Experience has shown that visitors inside the studio distract from the classes. Parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area if they or other visitors are not distracting to the students. We have a “parents’ day” in January where you can join us in the studio.
6. No pets inside the studio.
7. Attendance. It is imperative that the students are in class in order for them to learn. There are no individual make-up lessons given. If there is an extended illness, contact the teacher. We offer 2 general make-up classes – 1 over the Christmas Break and 1 during Spring Break. Be on time and ready to dance. Dancers should arrive no more than 10 minutes early and be picked up promptly.

Snow Day Note: The studio will not necessarily be closed when schools are closed due to weather. The weather changes so rapidly in Flagstaff that it may be cleared up and nice by the afternoon. We do not usually cancel on snow days. Please use your own judgment when deciding to come to class if the weather is bad. If we do cancel, we try to call the students in advance.

8. Performances. We are planning our big studio performance in June. We also have a parents’ days in October and January, where parents can observe and participate with their children. The Velocity Company performs more often during the year (ages 10-teen).
Performance/Concert costs: There is usually a performance fee per family to cover the expenses of renting a theater, tech crew, publicity, etc.
Costume Policy: Depending on the circumstances, we may use various options regarding costumes such as a costume closet with an accompanying rental fee, a basic costume that adds accessories, making costumes vs. buying them, or purchasing costumes for specific classes.
